About

Dr. Siva Theja Maguluri is a Fouts Family Early Career Professor and Associate Professor in  the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech. Before joining Georgia Tech, Dr. Maguluri was a Research Staff Member in the Mathematical Sciences Department at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. He obtained his Ph.D. and MS in ECE as well as MS in Applied Math from UIUC, and B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras. His research interests span the areas of Control, Optimization, Algorithms and Applied Probability. His research and teaching are recognized through several awards including the  “Best Publication in Applied Probability” award, NSF CAREER award, VAIBHAV fellowship, second place award at INFORMS JFIG best paper competition, Student best paper award at IFIP Performance, “CTL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award,” and “Student Recognition of Excellence in Teaching: Class of 1934 CIOS Award.”

Dr. Maguluri serves as an Associate Editor for Operations Research, Mathematics of Operations Research, and Stochastic Systems. He was a general chair of the INFORMS Applied Probability Society Conference 2025, and will serve as a general chair of ACM SIGMETRICS 2027. Dr. Maguluri was part of the founding team of the SNAPP seminar series.

Research

Dr. Maguluri's research interests span the areas of Control, Optimization, Algorithms and Applied Probability. More specifically, he is interested in fundamental problems in Reinforcement Learning, Stochastic Optimization, Stochastic Networks, Queueing Theory, and Distributed Optimization. He uses the tools from these areas to work on problems such as scheduling and resource allocation and revenue optimization in a wide variety of systems including Data Centers, Cloud Computing, Wireless Networks, Block Chain as well as Ride hailing systems.

Teaching

Dr. Maguluri teaches courses broadly in applied probability, optimization and applications such as 'Stochastic Processes I', 'Stochastic Processes II', and 'Mathematics of Operations Research'. Over years, he has taught special topics courses on 'Performance Analysis of Data Centers for Cloud Computing', 'Reinforcement Learning: Theory and Algorithms', 'First Order Methods in Optimization for Machine Learning' and 'Modern Tools in Probability and Stochastic Processes'. Dr. Maguluri also runs a future faculty mentorship program in ISyE, designed to help ISyE PhD students navigate the academic job search process, and help them transition from being a student to a faculty member.
