Client Profile
The TechMade initiative equips Georgia Tech graduates to engineer impactful solutions to some of the most complex interdisciplinary challenges by strengthening connections between engineering design, fabrication, and digital engineering.
Project Description
Improve workflow and user experience for 3D Printing in makerspaces, especially the Flowers Invention Studio. The studio offers hands-on training in 3D printing for rapid prototyping, suitable for academic, research, DIY hobby, or entrepreneurial projects. Unlike a 3D printing farm, the studio enforces effective manufacturing techniques by requiring students to confirm their part geometries with an on-duty Prototyping Instructor (PI). Currently, there are numerous opportunities to improve this process, including providing better wait times to end users, managing expectations through physical and digital data-driven signage, tracking prints to prevent loss, and providing prompt notification of job completion. Additionally, layout planning can help manage traffic during peak times. We aim to develop a user-friendly, streamlined process flow that ensures high throughput, effective customer service, and reduces stress on the PIs.
