DHL eCommerce
Client Profile
DHL eCommerce Americas is a specific segment of DHL eCommerce that leverages its extensive global network and expertise in logistics to support e-commerce businesses in the United States as well as cross-border shipping to Canada and Mexico. The division focuses on delivering efficient, reliable, and scalable shipping solutions that enhance the customer experience and drive business growth.Project Description
DHL eCommerce had significant changes in its customer profile and Distribution Center (DC) processes, resulting in heavier and larger parcels which need more work to be processed. These packages must be received and staged at our DCs, processed within our automation equipment, moved in containers throughout the facility, and securely transported between both DC to DC and to our last mile delivery partner.Due to the high interest of acquiring a larger set of customers with these larger parcels, the warehouse operations must be optimized to be able to sustain a reliable and high quality process. As mentioned above, these parcels affect the whole cycle, seeing impacts in the following:
• Lower throughputs in machines due to larger pieces
• More demanding manual handling of pieces due to heavier weights
• Higher frequency of oddly shaped parcels that cannot be processed within the machines
• Higher risk of machines’ downtime and damages
• Larger staging areas needed for both processed and unprocessed mail
• Increased moves within the operations due to fewer pieces per container
• Containers are not able to hold the larger parcels due to their sizes and weights
