Rivian Automotive, Inc. designs, develops, manufactures, and sells electric vehicles and accessories. The company offers consumer vehicles, including a two-row, five-passenger pickup truck under the R1T brand, a three-row, seven-passenger sport utility vehicle under the R1S name. It provides software and services, such as remarketing, vehicle repair and maintenance services, and vehicle electrical architecture and software development services. In addition, the company designs, develops, manufactures, and operates the Rivian Adventure Network Direct Current fast chargers, and offers access to Combined Charging Standard, as well as FleetOS, a proprietary, end-to-end centralized fleet management subscription platform. Further, it offers Rivian Commercial Van platform for Electric Delivery Van with collaboration with Amazon.com, Inc. It sells its products directly to customers in the consumer and commercial markets. Rivian Automotive, Inc. was founded in 2009 and is based in Irvine, California.

Project Description

This project is dedicated to achieving a Step Change in the Last-Mile material flow at Rivian’s Normal, IL manufacturing campus. We will not focus on incremental improvements but on a fundamental redesign of the entire system. Our goal is to implement a new logistics model that dramatically boosts efficiency, significantly reduces operational costs, and establishes a robust, future-proof system. By challenging the existing paradigm, we will deliver a scalable and sustainable solution that aligns with Rivian's long-term production and growth objectives.

Data Availability:

The Project team will have access to all necessary data for the completion of this project. Access will be provided via appropriate credentials issued by Rivian Automotive Inc. The scope of data includes:

- PFEP (Plan For Every Part)

- Flow from Rivian Last Mile to Rivian Point of Install

- Receiving and Delivery Frequency

- Labor Requirement and Spends

- Inbound Data

- Inventory Level (Planned & Actual)

- Manufacturing Demand



Communication:

Students will meet regularly (minimum weekly) with their Rivian Project Lead via zoom. A slack channel between the Rivian Team and Georgia Tech project team will be established to foster collaboration.
