Client Profile

Siemens Industry, Inc is the US entity of German conglomerate Siemens AG in the technology and industrial sectors. Smart Infrastructure is a division of Siemens Industry, Inc focused on manufacturing technology to electrify buildings (residential, commercial, and industrial).

Project Description

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws are emerging in the US placing end-of-life management (collection and recycling) of packaging responsibilities on manufacturers like Siemens. Currently there are 7 states that have passed this law and there are an additional 12 states that have drafted legislation that will require Siemens to assume financial, operational, and reporting responsibilities for packaging materials.

Due to the execution of these laws, Siemens needs to assess the impact on all products manufactured and distributed.

-Collect data on packaging weights, dimensions, and material types by product

-Assess which products hold the highest impact operationally and financially

-Build a scalable model to assess financial impacts by scenario (ex. Product XYZ in state of ME)
