Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries
Client Profile
Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries (NCM) is a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to providing emergency assistance to families in Norcross, Peachtree Corners, Doraville and Tucker, Georgia of Gwinnett County. For 35 years, NCM has served in one of the highest areas of need in Gwinnett County providing services including direct financial assistance (rent and utilities), food, clothing, medical assistance and various personal empowerment programs. NCM serves over 35,000 individuals annually in an area where 11,000 children face food insecurity and 15,000 families within 5 miles face a housing cost burden.
Project Description
The fall 2024 "Cooperative Hearts and Carts" team worked with NCM to increase bulk food supply, evaluate and optimize warehouse storage, and began implementation an inventory management system. Now the NCM team is ready to fully implement the new inventory management system with a focus on a points system for families receiving food. The points system will allow NCM to offer families the dignity of choosing the food they receive while also preventing waste and incentivizing participation in programs leading to financial stability. During implementation, we will place major focus on the nutritional value of food distributed with the goal of changing the narrative of needy families receiving food that does not meet the requirements of a healthy diet. A successful project will result in a model other food banks can use to contribute to the overall health and well-being of our communities.
