Interface is a global flooring manufacturer and sustainability leader with manufacturing operations in six locations across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The company has established ambitious climate goals, including science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets aligned with the latest Science Based Targets initiative requirements and a commitment to become Carbon Negative by 2040.
The client team needs a practical, repeatable framework to compare renewable energy procurement options, local grid conditions, infrastructure constraints, and accounting risks across selected markets.

Project Description

Interface is seeking a semester-length decision-design project that helps evaluate renewable energy procurement options for a small set of priority regions or sites.
The project should design a simple screening tool or scorecard that compares market-based renewable energy options, such as RECs, Guarantees of Origin, PPAs, green tariffs, or utility programs.
The project should help Interface:
• Map the decision process and stakeholder needs for renewable energy procurement.
• Design a criteria-based framework that compares cost, emissions impact, grid intensity, market availability, infrastructure considerations, accounting credibility, and policy risk.
• Test the framework on selected markets and recommend which options warrant deeper evaluation by Interface.
The final deliverable should be a reusable decision framework, scorecard, and short market comparison that applies design principles such as usability, transparency, repeatability, scalability, and decision quality.
