Emory University Hospital Quality
Client Profile
Emory Healthcare (EHC) has cultivated a strong culture dedicated to quality. Emory Healthcare's goal for quality continues to be enhancements in clinical outcomes, patient safety, and service, resulting in national ranking for quality among the top 10 percent of academic medical centers in the U.S. according to Press Ganey. In benchmarking ourselves to academic medical centers, we are comparing ourselves to the top-ranked hospitals in the country, which treat the sickest patients.Project Description
Rapid sepsis recognition and management is strongly associated with improved patient outcomes. Beginning January 1, 2024, CMS Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock Management bundle (SEP-1) performance will be included in the FY 2026 CMS Value Based Purchasing Program. All EHC Hospitals are currently performing well below the 59% Achievement Threshold, which reflects sub-optimal patient care and could result in financial penalties to EHC Hospitals. The project is to improve the consistency of sepsis early recognition and early management across EHC Emergency Departments to reduce inpatient mortality, reduce length of stay, and improve CMS SEP-1 measure performance above the 59% Achievement threshold.
