Client Profile
The Emory Healthcare Network, established in 2011, is the largest academically based, clinically integrated network in Georgia, with more than 3,800 physicians concentrating in 70 different subspecialties at over 580 provider locations. Our core purpose is to improve lives and provide hope by delivering exceptional care to our patients, their families and the communities we serve.Project Description
Client ProfileEmory Healthcare is the premier academic medical system in Georgia, comprising 11 hospitals, the Emory Clinic, and over 250 provider locations. The Emory Transplant Center cares for complex patients with end-stage organ failure who require life-saving organ transplantation. Over the years, Emory Transplant Center has grown to be the third largest solid organ transplant program in the United States, performing a total of 914 heart, lung, liver, kidney and pancreas transplants in 2025. The Emory Transplant Center Clinic, located adjacent to Emory University Hospital, serves as the primary site for outpatient pre-transplant evaluation and post-transplant follow-up care.
Client Need
The Emory Transplant Center Clinic has experienced substantial growth, completing over 51,000 unique appointments in 2025. Patients move among multiple care areas – including the Transplant Clinic’s laboratory, infusion center, exam rooms, and procedure spaces – depending on their clinical needs. With increased volume, the Clinic has faced challenges related to capacity, patient flow, and operational efficiency.
This project will focus on providing data-driven recommendations to optimize clinic efficiency without compromising patient care. Key aims include identifying bottlenecks, reducing patient delays, and determining the Clinic’s functional capacity and staffing needs. Ultimately, the goal is to support a redesigned clinic flow that minimizes delays, improves space utilization, and reduces operational waste.
Scope and Deliverables
• Data analysis: Review baseline clinic performance, patient flow patterns, and current staffing models to assess alignment with operational demands
• Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct interviews and shadowing sessions with clinic staff and providers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current state workflows, bottlenecks, and constraints
• Patient Flow Redesign: Refine and optimize the patient flow process to reduce delays, improve patient throughput, and enhance the overall clinic experience
• Validation and Testing: Pilot proposed workflow changes, collect feedback, and iterate solutions to ensure feasibility, sustainability, and positive impact on clinic operations.
• Future State Evaluation: Model projected clinic capacity needs, staffing requirements, and physical space considerations based on anticipated growth in patient volume
