Client Profile
The Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) team is dedicated to enhancing Georgia Tech's campus by providing efficient, sustainable, and innovative solutions to maintain, operate, and improve our physical environment. Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) consists of 15 departments with more than 500 dedicated professionals. Each department supports operational excellence through a comprehensive range of services for the entire Georgia Tech campus.I&O plays an integral role in maintaining a campus environment that fosters learning, research, and innovation while advancing the Institute's commitments to sustainability, resilience, collaboration, and exceptional service.
Project Description
The Autonomous Cart Delivery Service Project: I&S – Services Department proposes to launch an Autonomous Cart Delivery Service to support the Infrastructure & Sustainability (I&S) Warehouse. The program’s primary goals are to increase operational efficiency, reduce campus traffic congestion, lower fuel and labor costs, and advance Georgia Tech’s sustainability commitments.Currently, five Area Maintenance Shops and other I&S departments make an estimated 20-25 vehicle trips per day to the warehouse to pick up materials and supplies. These repeated trips result in:
• Increased campus traffic and congestion
• Lost productive labor hours
• Higher fuel and vehicle maintenance costs
• Increased greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution
The Autonomous Cart Delivery Service will replace many of these trips with scheduled, on-demand autonomous deliveries, moving materials directly from the warehouse to maintenance shops and designated drop-off points across campus.
Objectives
• Improve efficiency: Reduce staff time spent traveling to and from the warehouse
• Enhance sustainability: Lower fuel usage and emissions aligned with Georgia Tech climate goals
• Reduce congestion: Minimize daily vehicle traffic on campus
• Optimize costs: Reduce operational and transportation expenses
• Demonstrate innovation: Position Georgia Tech as a leader in smart campus logistics
