Waffle House
Client Profile
Restaurant Company with greater than 2000 stores operating in 26 states. Headquartered in Atlanta, GA.Project Description
We are working on a pretty comprehensive evaluation of utility usage (electricity, natural gas, water) at our >2000 locations that may be applicable for a Senior Design project. Here’s an outline of it:• Quantifying current utility usage of Waffle House building and equipment.
- Major building systems (Lighting, Air system, Refrigeration, etc)
- Major cooking production systems (Cooking Appliances, temperature holding equipment, etc)
- Major auxillary systems (Dishwashing, hot water, restrooms, etc)
• Evaluation for efficiency opportunities
- System(s) to facilitate dynamic utility usage functionality (smart metering and control, demand monitoring, energy saving/standby functionality, etc)
- Impact of Human Behavioral changes related to utility usage – (coaching materials, design of gamification/incentives for staff/stores that become more utility efficient)
- Utility rate tariff survey with a system for optimizing store to time of use rates
o The expectation is that utility rates will become time dynamic, how does Waffle House best set up the store to minimize utility costs in the future? What are some systems and what are the initial costs/ROI of those systems that can help Waffle House become more resilient in times where utility costs outpace inflation?
