Industrial engineering, operations research, and systems engineering are fields of study intended for individuals who are interested in analyzing and formulating abstract models of complex systems with the intention of improving system performance. Unlike traditional disciplines in engineering and the mathematical sciences, the fields address the role of the human decision-maker as key contributor to the inherent complexity of systems and primary benefactor of the analyses.

Jovan Julien is a Ph.D. student in Operations Research at the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. They received a M.S. in Health Systems Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a BSc in Biomedical Engineering from Brown University.
Jovan is interested in disease modeling with applications in predictive modeling and health policy. Their current research focuses on alcohol-related liver disease.
Jovan is a RWJF Health Policy Research Scholar and received a Lee B. Lusted Prize for Student Research award at the 2018 meeting of the Society for Medical Decision Making for a project titled “A Projection of the Prevalence and Mortality Trends of Alcoholic Liver Cirrhosis in the United States”.
