Francisco Javier Castillo Zunino

Francisco is a third-year Ph.D. student in Operations Research. He is currently researching a patient scheduling optimization problem, by using approximation algorithms and heuristics; and researching relevant factors that affect vaccination coverage rates in low-income countries (collaboration with Emory University, funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation).

Francisco taught a 3-week course in the Summer Engineering Institute 2018 which focuses on underrepresented minorities rising 11th and 12th graders from across the United States. Students learned how to build and use simulation models to improve humanitarian systems.

Francisco worked for two semesters as a Graduate Research Assistant at Emory Healthcare, where he developed simulation models for their emergency departments to decrease overall waiting times.
