Francisco Javier Castillo Zunino

Francisco is a second-year Ph.D. student in Operations Research. He is currently researching an optimization problem for scheduling patients, by using approximation algorithms and heuristics that guarantee a certain level of quality in the solutions.

Francisco taught a short course in the Summer Engineering Institute (SEI) in 2018. SEI is a 3-week residential program offered by the Center for Engineering Education and Diversity (CEED) at Georgia Tech, which focuses on underrepresented minority rising 11th and 12th graders from across the nation. Students learned how to build and use simulation models to improve a humanitarian system.

Francisco worked for two semesters as a Graduate Research Assistant at Emory Healthcare, where he developed simulation models for their emergency departments to decrease overall waiting times.
