Industrial engineering, operations research, and systems engineering are fields of study intended for individuals who are interested in analyzing and formulating abstract models of complex systems with the intention of improving system performance. Unlike traditional disciplines in engineering and the mathematical sciences, the fields address the role of the human decision-maker as key contributor to the inherent complexity of systems and primary benefactor of the analyses.
Georgia Tech pursues leading-edge research with industry, government, and community partners.
At ISyE, we are a national leader in 10 core fields of specialization: Advanced Manufacturing, Analytics and Machine Learning, Applied Probability and Simulation, Data Science and Statistics, Economic Decision Analysis, Energy and Sustainable Systems, Health and Humanitarian Systems, Optimization, Supply Chain Engineering, and Systems Informatics and Control.
ISyE's faculty and staff members strive to provide a world-class educational experience for the Stewart School's undergraduate and graduate students, and to forge long-lasting relationships with ISyE alumni and industry partners. Floor & Decor
Floor & Decor is a leading specialty retailer of hard surface flooring, offering the broadest in-stock selection of tile, wood, stone, related tools and flooring accessories at everyday low prices. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Atlanta, Floor & Decor is one of Fortune's 100 fastest-growing companies. At Floor & Decor, homeowners and professional contractors have access to superstore selection at warehouse prices with showroom quality. Our extensive selection of in-stock product allows our customers to get what they need when they need it. And because we source directly from manufacturers or quarries worldwide, our top quality products are priced below those of our competitors.
Floor & Decor receives hard surface flooring products and accessories from suppliers all around the globe. That product is received in one of four distribution centers (DCs) in the US. These products are then distributed to one of over 150 stores nationwide. If that product is found by the DC to be defective, it must be remediated or removed from the supply chain prior to delivery to stores and customers. While this is a small percentage of the overall product flow, it is a frequent enough occurrence to be a considerable workload and cost to the DCs and corporate teams. This project will focus on reducing wasted time, effort, and money by optimizing the remediation process, preventing issues from occurring at before they arrive at the DCs, and eliminating product from the remediation process by moving activities outside the remediation process and DCs.
