ISyE has three academic capstone design classes – Undergraduate Senior Design, MS in SCE Capstone, and MS in Analytics Capstone – in which students spend an intensive semester working on an engineering design project for a client company or other organization. These projects are designed to challenge and enhance the students’ problem-solving skills while training them to utilize all available resources to develop a solution for the project client. These programs offer a unique opportunity for your organization to partner and interact with these students, a win-win collaboration for both the students and your organization. Interpretation of specific aspects of the design problem and potential solutions will depend on each team's diverse range of skills, experiences, and imagination.
All ISyE undergraduate seniors culminate their undergraduate educational experience with a capstone course called Senior Design. In Senior Design, you are presented with an opportunity to work with a team of undergraduate students to provide your organization with a variety of innovative and creative solutions to a problem. These student teams work as unpaid outside consultants satisfying their interest in a real-world design experience. They work on well-defined, specific design activities. Each team picks its project from the submitted projects that comply with the course objectives; if multiple teams pick your project, you can choose among them. For maximum consideration by students, projects for spring semester (January through early May) should be submitted by September, and projects for fall semester (mid-August through mid-December) should be submitted by May.
During the summer, all students in our master’s degree programs in supply chain engineering and analytics complete an industry-sponsored Capstone Project in which they apply their knowledge and skills for a company or organization. Students work either as individual interns or in teams, alongside faculty advisors and mentors from the sponsoring organization. Prior to the summer term, students form teams and select specific projects from a portfolio offered by potential sponsors (business, government, NGO, etc.). Each sponsoring organization provides operational support for the project team and assigns a mentor to actively work with the team during the project. During the term, teams may complete both field work periods (typically on-site) and on-campus work periods (preparing and presenting project outcomes.)
