Renato D. C. Monteiro is professor in the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE). He received his Ph.D from University of California at Berkeley in 1988. Dr. Monteiro's research is confined largely to the continuous optimization area with specific interest in interior-point algorithms for linear programming, semidefinite programming, convex programming and complementarity problems. He is also interested in computational optimization with specific interest in the development of numerical codes for solving large scale semidefinite programs. His most recent works deal with the development of heuristics for graph problems (e.g., maximum cut or maximum clique problems).

Dr. Monteiro's research has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the Office of Naval Research. Due to his widely cited research work, Dr. Monteiro joined in 2004 the list of ISI Highly Cited Researchers in the Mathematics category. He remains actively involved in research and academic activities associated with the Ph.D. program in Algorithms, Combinatorics, and Optimization (ACO) which is a multidisciplinary effort sponsored by ISyE, the School of Mathematics, and the College of Computing. He has served or is serving as associate editor for Operations Research (1996-1999), INFORMS Journal of Computing (2001-present), Mathematical Methods of Operations Research (2002-present), and Mathematics of Operations Research (2003-present). Dr. Monteiro is also serving as chair of the INFORMS Optimization Section (2002-2004).

Hints for Searching:

  • Searches are not case sensitive
  • If you can't find someone you are looking for or are unsure of spelling, try searching only for the first part of either the firstname and lastname.
  • If you can't find an individual who is not ISyE faculty or staff, try the Georgia Tech directory.
  • This search page retrieves ISyE-related directory information (e.g. names, email addresses, etc.). If you are looking for other information, or can't find a particular person, you may want to try searching the Georgia Tech Web.
