Jye-Chyi (JC) Lu is a professor in the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE). He received a Ph.D. in statistics from University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1988, and joined the faculty of North Carolina State University (NCSU) where he remained until 1999 when he joined ISyE.
Dr. Lu is very active in promoting research, education and extension-service programs with focus on information systems engineering, e-business, e-logistics, e-design and industrial statistics areas. He serves as an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Reliability and as session organizer and chair for conferences such as “Multiscale Methods in Biometry” for IMS/ENAR Spring 2001 meeting and “Reliability and Degradation Studies” for 2001 Spring Research Conference on Statistics in Industry and Technology. In 1996, Dr. Lu received the David D. Mason award, and in 1998, he received an outstanding extension service award from NCSU.
Dr. Lu was the founding director of the Industrial and Technological Statistics Program at NCSU, where he worked with companies such as Nortel, GE, IBM, Bayer, and Semiconductor Research Corporation in various joint research and education initiatives. He initiated the proposal drafting and was a key co-PI in a vertical integration of graduate research and education grant ($2,746,310 for 5 years) awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 1999. He was also a key co-PI in a project entitled “Internet Based Curriculum Innovation in Information Engineering and E-Business” ($499,994 for three years) sponsored by the NSF in 2001. He made important contributions in helping Georgia Tech and the Institute of Paper Science and Technology (IPST) to establish the Center for Paper Business and Industry Studies supported by the Sloan Foundation and the pulp & paper industry in 2001. Now, he is working with colleagues in various Georgia Tech programs to establish a new center in IT-design.
