For Out-of-Department Students

Q: What are the requirements for transferring into ISyE?

Any student that meets at least one of the following requirements may transfer into the Stewart School of ISyE:

  • Has less that 60 hours and has not previously transferred to any other department.
  • Freshman standing with at least a 2.4 GPA at Tech.
  • Sophomore standing with at least a 2.6 GPA at Tech.
  • Junior standing with at least a 2.8 GPA at Tech.

Q: Can I take a class in ISyE if I am not an ISyE student?

If you meet the GPA requirements of 2.4 for freshman, 2.6 for sophomore, or 2.8 for Junior and have the prerequisites for the class, then you may petition the Undergraduate Office in ISyE. At the end of phase II, if there is room in the class, you will be granted a permit.


For In-Department Students

Q: Who do I see for ISyE advising?

The Stewart School of ISyE has set up two types of advising for you. If the question you have is with regards to registration and classes, you should go to the Undergraduate Office in ISyE. Otherwise, a faculty advisor has been assigned to each student and you should see her or him. If you do not know which faculty has been assigned to you, it is listed in your file in the Undergraduate Office.

Q: I need counseling help, who should I see?

Georgia Tech has an excellent Counseling Center located in the Student Services Building on the 2nd floor to help you deal with a variety of problems. Please contact them at 404 894-2575.

Q: Can I drop an ISyE class?

Yes, you are allowed to drop an ISyE class.

Q: What is an incomplete grade?

A student must be doing satisfactory work to be assigned an incomplete. The reason must be non-academic. Acceptable reasons include but are not limited to

  • Personal illness of student
  • Family emergency (death, illness, birth, etc.)
  • Computer failure/software problem/lack of data supplied by outside source
  • Travel required by student's job that could not be rescheduled

An incomplete grade must be made up during the student's next term at Georgia Tech or else it will be converted to an "F".

Q: How can I get help/tutoring for my classes?

All undergraduate classes in ISyE have graduate teaching assistants (TAs) assigned to them. TAs are required to hold office hours to help to answer your questions. If you are having severe difficulties with a class, the Office of Success Programs can help you to set up one-on-one tutoring. You can contact them at 404 894-9511. In addition, OMED provide excellent tutoring services. Information relating to OMED can be found at http://www.omed.gatech.edu/.

Q: What should I do if I am sexually harassed?

To file a complaint or inquire about the polices concerning sexual harassment or sexual misconduct at the Georgia Tech, students should contact the Dean of Students. The phone number is 404 894-6367.
